Kittiwake House

Kittiwake House is a traditional fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1880. Perfectly positioned just off the coastal path, its location offers stunning views over the pan-tiled roofs and quiet village streets to the harbour and over the sea to the Isle of May. Set over three levels, the homely accommodation is ideal for up to six guests.

On the ground floor there is a well-equipped dining kitchen with everything you’d expect to make your self-catering stay as easy as possible. The dining table comfortably seats six and is a great additional social space for gathering together. The double bedroom is to the rear of the property, with an outlook over the courtyard garden and has a shower room next to it.

A wide staircase leads to the first floor where the spacious and welcoming lounge is located. With two large picture windows, this is the ideal spot to take in some of the wonderful views. Many original features have been retained and the high ceilings and stripped wooden floors add to the character. There is a gas living flame fire and Italian leather sofas to relax into, ideal for a lazy evening after a day exploring the East Neuk. The family bathroom on this level exudes luxury with its freestanding slipper bath as well as a separate shower.

Two further bedrooms are located on the second floor. To the front and boasting superb views is a superking bedroom which can be arranged as a twin on request. Sit by the window and use the binoculars to try and catch a passing pod of dolphins! The third bedroom is a king room which also benefits from a further single bed should your party of six require a different bed configuration, making this a great option for golfers or friends travelling together.

As well as the enclosed, sunny courtyard to the rear, there is additional outdoor seating to the front of the property. Enjoy your morning coffee in the sunshine to the front and follow the afternoon sun to the courtyard with your favourite tipple.

Parking is available on street as well as in the parking area at the top of the street.

St Monans is one of the pretty fishing villages along Fife’s East coast, and has long been a popular destination for a stay by the sea. Known for its gentle pace of life you can truly switch off as you explore the winding lanes that lead to the shore, watch the fishing boats come in and out of the harbour and feel the fresh sea breeze. It’s equally well suited to those who enjoy a more active break- Fife Coastal Path connects all the East Neuk villages and offers stunning scenery along the way, there are open water tidal pools – including one just round the corner from Kittiwake House – water sports including paddle boarding and numerous world famous golf courses within ten miles ranging from the Old Course in St Andrews and Anstruther Golf Course which features the Rockies hole, voted the hardest par 3 in the UK!

The food and drink scene in Fife is well celebrated and the local larder is bursting with fresh and delicious offerings from farm shops selling veg straight from the field, locally grown berries from honesty boxes at the end of farm roads, seafood landed in the harbour just hours before, artisan bread and beer from small scale breweries. Pick up ingredients to cook up a feast at Kittiwake House or sample the local delights at some of the cafes, bistros, bars and restaurants in the area. You can’t come to the East Neuk and not try a famous fish supper from one of the local fish and chip takeaways either, it’s the ultimate seaside treat all year round.

Arts and music play a lively part in the local calendar with markets, concerts and exhibitions a regular event. Immerse yourself in the local traditions too with the annual village and harbour festivals such as the Sea Queen events.

With St Andrews 20 minutes and Edinburgh approx. one hour, this is a lovely location from which to explore Scotland further.
